Festival of the Golden Wheel

Woolgoolga, 2001

In beautiful Woolgoolga on the northern coast of New South wales, Aboriginal dancers began the proceedings. Wearing traditional finery, members of the local Sikh community (Woolgoolga is home to Australia's largest Sikh community) joined the parade, as did children from the local schools. A lantern tower - bearing images of Woolgoolga's flora and fauna, topped by a fireworked golden sun wheel - and huge lantern suns bearing wishes for the future were also featured.
